Artist Statement

The basis of the everyday has been the key theme to my practice during this year, my practice mainly consists of paintings digitally and physically. My aim for my work is looking for chaotic space, taking a photograph and manipulating it into a controlled and pleasant piece of work. My everyday surroundings and objects are important because they evaluate how I feel during a specific time and what I am most drawn to on that specific day. I enjoy using my work as an act of therapy and something I can control; I am using the Covid-19 pandemic as the chaotic environment one time and other times using my home or going out and taking photographs to capture calm environments.

The majority of my work in the past has touched upon the themes of trauma, relationships, and culture, I have used materials that I have had the access to during the time and even learnt new skills such as digital art and installation work. My work has a memory feel to it, and almost felt like I was keeping a diary, just made out of time, which reminds me a lot of Mary Heilmans work. Some of my previous works involved umbrellas, clothes and all-round concentrating on physical materials, I found myself only enjoying that process for a limited time as I felt like my 2D pieces were a lot stronger and I enjoyed the process of them.
