Artist Statement

Throughout history, women have been perceived as merely toys, birthing machines, objects.

The way society views women within the sex industry is both degrading and unsettling. The industry may be male dominated, yet would be nothing without the women in production.

Men will happily label women sluts, whores and express their views how “sex work isn’t real work” yet have no issue in feeding their loneliness by indulging pornography. People believe that you do not need to show respect to women within the industry, despite their own consumerism.

My work is a celebration of women in the sex industry, by producing illustrations of women who inspire me and creating art on a taboo topic that is not fit for everybody’s consumption. I aim to challenge this idea that sexual women are not feminine, and show that these women should be widely celebrated for their professions. My use of butterflies is to show the growth and potential of the industry and what it should be, without the damages that are inflicted by male involvement. Feminism is tackling more social issues by the day, and as an artist I stand by respecting ALL women.

Showcasing my work on various material objects so that people can show their solidarity to these women and what they stand for wherever they go. Whilst also supporting myself as an artist through topics which I am passionate about. Sex work is a respectable profession, and it does not define these women. I hope my work shows that there is beauty, power and strength in sex workers.
