Artist Statement
The practice has developed into consisting of a series of non-narrative structuralfilm; eradicating the need for storytelling in film that Hollywood likes to sell us.Moving the viewers’ focus to realise the other components that make up film, wedo not need to be reliant on a narrative to stay in a trance.Ah, you have been tricked! You stayed to watch the 5-minute film. Is there anending? Can you stay in the trance long enough to find out or has impatience gotthe better of us? The sound drips, ticks, snaps at your ears, growing the intensity, building the impatience. What can we see? What are those shadows?Intemediary was the first piece after having transitioned from paintings focusingon human touch, to mundane films that reflect the everyday through ambiguousfootage. Whilst there seems little association between the two, the softness andblurriness of the films I create are a subtle reflection of human touch, so slight, asthough someone has just brushed past your skin. My work revolves around a lotof contrast, sharp and smooth, movement and stillness, highlighting thejuxtaposition of a new normal, confined to our homes as the impatience sets.Contrast even leaks into the sounds I edit to overlay the films, the harshness andclarity of the glove snapping cuts through the fuzziness of the imagery like aknife, as does the piercing sounds of the dripping tap.
