Artist Statement

 My work has mainly consisted of digital image and video-based work, with the same theme running through my work which is art and science or the name I have given for this section which is ‘ The Horrors of Art and Science’ Within these four series I have experimented with such material as face paint and special effects makeup,  wanting to show the muscles inside a humans body on the outside of the body using my models or myself as a canvas.

Within this work, I wanted my audience to see what is inside of our body’s however I also wanted to be able to scare or ‘gross’ some of the audience by showing and educating them of what the muscles look like in different parts of the body.

I began to delve more into medical-based illustration art due to looking into the muscles and structure of the body, this ended up with the work having different sections. However, with my biggest inspiring series is called ‘See Within’ After working in the darkroom I was able to create two different series’  with a photography-based piece and a video-based series, This is where my first turning point came as my work was changing more into something gruesome or a olden style horror piece such as ‘Nosferatu’, This is when I would be editing my photography more and making the skin colour and the red muscles look more gruesome compared to the beginning of the year.
