Artist statement
‘The young girl’ 2020 uses shadows and faded imagery to make us feel a sense of lost and unknown memories. As well as placing emphasis of the grey, muted colours of a landscape which is part of a seaside town. ‘Bounce’ 2019-20 is similar, using objects shadows with grey scale colours. ‘Blink of an Eye’ 2020 outlins the five stages of a female’s life to ask us to think
about growing up and growing old within the film. As well as the meaning of time and its meaning at certain ages.

I use film as a tool to explore the topic of generations, time and memories. This is done by exploring representations of movement in space. Resulting in making short films that evoke lost memories from the passing of time. Linking each film to particular moments from my childhood that are blurred or distorted through the use of objects.

The films I compose are built up of multiple layers, displaying the shadows of objects as well as the main background of the piece. The backgrounds move at a slow pace whilst the shadowed layers work at an enhanced tempo. The short films I make are all filtered to the colour grey, which is typically negatively perceived as emotionally distant or disconnected. This colour may also resemble a feeling of loss and depression. Therefore, within my films the use of the grey and muted colours resembles the lack of childhood memories I possess.
