Artist Statement
My practice is the merging of installation art, theatre and set design, to create spaces which I consider to be ‘sets’. These sets are my vision for a wider construct, I aim for them to exist within a larger context, but they are created as a fragment within a space. My work focuses on the metonymic relation to a wider whole, by intentionally using few objects and using light to manipulate the sense of scale, I’ve been able to create works that suggest certain eras and places. The stylisation of a work is important to me as the overall visual element, is what first draws you in, the visual language of a piece is the welcoming for a viewer to explore the work deeper. As an aspiring set designer/ art director, I’ve been able to explore design through an artist’s eye which has given me a new perspective on the art world and the world of performance, one which craves immersion and connection between a space and a body.
